UNDER AN AZRAQ SKY
|
Under an Azraq Sky was written in response to the ongoing news of British born South Asian boys and girls leaving the UK to fight alongside the so called Islamic State.
The piece was a solo show, incorporating verse and ritual. The central character saw himself as a warrior king, in a long line of warriors depicted through Shakespeare: Henry V, Richard III, Macbeth. He was also a young man born and brought up in the UK, instilled with a real love of his local football team, Portsmouth. As such the show fused iambic verse with football chants to demonstrate a fractured mind looking for purpose in all the wrong places. Under an Azraq Sky was presented as part of Alchemy 2016 at The Southbank Centre. |
