HANSEL AND GRETEL

Picture
In 2021, I was commissioned by Insane Root to write a new version of Hansel and Gretel for performance at Arnos Vale Cemetery. Insane Root are a Bristol theatre company who specialise in making site specific work.

Working closely with director Hannah Drake, I imagined a version of the Grimms fairy tale which was steeped in feelings of loss and grief in response to the show location.

Hansel and Gretel was performed in promenade outdoors at Arnos Vale Cemetery and was supported by Grief Encounter, a charity who support young people who have suffered bereavement. A 'Memory Trail' has been installed at Arnos Vale with QR codes that lead to clips of Hansel and Gretel to encourage conversations about grief and loss.
