AND THEN I WAS HERE...
tales of Asian migration
I have been fortunate enough to receive Arts Council funding for my next project, a British Asian Theatre Project, currently called 'And then I was here...'. Over the course of the first half of 2015, I interviewed individuals and ran focus groups around the UK to collect diverse stories, reflecting the British Asian experience. The main idea was to source stories that are surprising and unique, to try and allow British Asians to share their own tales and make their own agenda.
This project is in association with Pegasus Theatre, Oxford with whom I am currently a SPARK supported artist. There was a sharing of the work in progress (disseminating the process, interviews and hurdles as well as presenting some initial scenes) at Pegasus Theatre, Oxford on Saturday 12 September 2015 as part of the theatre's OPEN DOORS day.
Now in 2016, phase two has started: more interviews followed by a sharing of the completed piece later this year.
If you are aged over 18, live in the UK and consider yourself a British Asian then I still want to talk to you!
